It's a Boy!!!!!!!

dadadadadadadada…….Wait…..Ok, I think I got this typing thing down……Is this thing on…..Ok, here we go! Happy Birthday to Me, Happy Birthday to Me….Happy Birthday to Luke, Happy birthday to Me!!!!

I’d like to introduce myself to all of our family and friends out there. While I haven’t met most of you yet, Mom and Dad talk so highly of everyone that I can’t wait to meet you all. My name is Lucas “Luke” John Gacnik and I was born 12/08/11 at 11:05pm. I weighed 8 lbs – 2 ounces, and measured 18.5-inches long. I know I wasn’t supposed to make my arrival until closer to Christmas, but I thought, “Why Wait?” The sooner I get home, the sooner I can open presents. I heard my sister Madeline wanted to open my presents before I was born and I couldn’t let that happen. I think I’m getting a head of myself, though. Let me telling you briefly about the day Mom and Dad met me for the first time!

On December 8th (a Thursday I think if I remember the days of the week correctly), Mom’s belly started to get really tight during the day. This made sleeping uncomfortable for me as I kept feeling like I was getting pushed and squeezed. My little home was getting too small as it was. I heard mom call the doctor for their opinion. I think she was told to relax and drink lots of water. I don’t think it helped at all. Mom brought me home from work a little early that day and we laid on the couch together. Before coming home, Mom called dad and told him he better pack a bag because she thought I might be arriving today. I later found out that Dad packed Mom’s bag in record time! After being home for a while, Mom’s belly kept getting tighter and tighter more frequently. Mom and Dad decided to take me to the hospital.

Since I wasn’t suppose to arrive this early, Grandma and Grandpa Kiefer hadn’t arrived to watch my big sister yet. On the way to the hospital, we dropped Madeline off at her daycare provider Pat’s house. Pat was gracious and generous enough to watch Madeline for a couple days until Grandma and Grandpa could make the trip up from Iowa. While I was very anxious to meet my big sister, it would have to wait. Madeline was extremely excited to have a sleepover at Pat’s.

Ok…..back to the hospital. While we were there, the tightness in Mom’s belly kept coming stronger and more frequently. I didn’t like it very much and I know Mom wasn’t having much fun either. At around 10:00 at night, the doctor apparently told Mom and Dad that I was arriving tonight. YEAH!!!!!!!! I was going to meet Mom and Dad for the first time. Mom’s surgery and my arrival went great. I think mom and dad almost cried when they heard me testing out my little lungs. They seemed to like my head of hair as well.

I spent the next few days in the hospital meeting a lot of really nice people and getting a lot of attention. It was great. I used my charm and even put the moves on some of the nurses. I think I have a few dates lined up already. Maybe I’ll have them drive!

I met my big sister Madeline for the first time. She was very excited to see me and gave me lots of hugs and kisses. She even took me for a walk around the hospital which was very fun. She didn’t like when I cried, though. I also got to meet Grandma and Grandpa Kiefer, Uncle Tom, Aunt Mary, and my cousins Katelyn, Caleb and Hailey. They brought me nice gifts to play with and they all loved to hold and hug me. I loved it as well!

Now that we are at home, I seem to be getting a lot of attention here as well. Mom and Dad enjoy taking naps with me and I love to eat. Where has this milk been for the last nine months!!!! Grandma and Grandpa Kiefer are staying here as well to help out. Mom and Dad want to thank them very much! I heard I get to meet Grandma and Grandpa Gacnik in January too. My big sister has been amazing! She loves to hold me, give me kisses and help out with everything. When Mom or Dad changes my diaper, she gets to watch and throw the diaper away. She’s a great helper. She likes to tell everyone all about her baby brother Luke. I love my big sister, even though she got sick after we got home. I heard they had to take her to the doctor late at night. I think they said she had something called strep throat. It did not look like fun. I gave her extra kisses to help her feel better.

I’m not too crazy about my home yet, as it gets pretty cold. There are a lot of stairs as well, which will make it difficult for me to crawl around in time. Mom and Dad keep talking about a potential new home in our future, but they haven’t explained everything to me yet. I heard something about an offer, a short sale and maybe moving sometime next year. I’ll have to have my big sister fill you in later. She’s pretty smart and knows all about these types of things.

I’m sorry for writing so much, but I wasn’t sure when I would be able to get back on the computer again. My sister loves to play on the computer as well and I had to sneak on while she was napping. As I get older, I’ll have to have her show me all the fun games she plays.

I hope everyone has a great Christmas and Happy New Year! Here are a few pictures of my adventures over the last week. Don’t worry, though…….I’ll write more again soon!

Love,
Luke
